Read: Philippians 3:18-20
In what direction is our nation headed? Many will say the economy is their greatest concern. Others worry about global warming and our planet’s stability. Extremists on the left and right warn that the other will lead America to destruction.
We need to remind ourselves that our time on earth is temporary, and we are called to live in God’s eternal kingdom—our true home. Thankfully, because of the cross of Christ, we live in His kingdom now, and its values far outweigh our earthly ones. Rather than seeking power because we think we have the right answers, we would first seek the wisdom of God in Scripture and follow His commands. Currency in God’s kingdom is love, humility, generosity, and fear of the Lord.
Gloom and doom on social media, even traditional news sources, will create anxiety and fear if we can’t look beyond this world. We may not be able to create world peace, but we can listen to and love people who share different viewpoints without sacrificing what we believe. Embracing the love of Jesus will create a space of peace within us that we can extend to others. And we can use our free time to help, rather than argue.
Lord Jesus, thank you for establishing Your kingdom on earth. Let us dwell at the foot of Your cross as citizens of Heaven and not this of this planet.
