Read: Colossians 3:2-3
Superman hid his life as Clark Kent,a bespectacled newspaper reporter, until someone needed help, and then he would spring into action.
We Christians blend in well with others as we go to work, take our children to school, vote, and join social or interest groups. But after a while, we stick out a bit. We don’t swear, people learn they can believe what we say, and we turn up when needed, ready to help.
Our lives are safe in Christ’s care. The more we live as Jesus commands, the quicker we blow our cover as regular folks. We aren’t like other people, and that may irk some. But it’s hard to hate a person who insists on being there for you when others are nowhere to be found.
And after days and months of following Christ, we get worse! Seeking first what God wants, and not what gives us pleasure, puts us in some strange situations. After a while, people envy our peace in the face of disaster, our calm in storms, and our ability to forgive when hate eats others alive. We don’t obsess over worldly concerns because our real world is in Christ. We learn to lean into God’s sovereignty.
Dear Jesus, thank you for holding us close through all of life’s difficulties. Thank you for the privilege of representing you among people who desperately need to meet You. Make us good ambassadors until you create a new heaven and earth.
