Satan’s Last Hurrah

by | Dec 10, 2024 | 2024 Advent Devotional

Read: 2 Thessalonians 2:9

People have been predicting the last day and questioning for years who will be the anti-Christ. No doubt those sheltering in tunnels while the German blitzkrieg destroyed their city wondered if the end-time arrived. As bad as that was, we know from Genesis 3 that from the time sin was ushered into this world, “the whole creation has been groaning together” in inevitable decay until Christ comes again.(Romans 8:22)

How long can we hold back forces of evil that surround us? Paul admonishes us to be prepared for Jesus’ return. But first, there will be a time of tribulation. Is this the beginning? As children on vacation ask from the back seat, “Are we there yet?”

The Bible tells us the creature, like Satan, will breathe lies and perform wonders to “deceive those who are perishing” (Verse 10).

Every scammer in the world believes people are easily deceived. Unfortunately, it’s not that difficult to lead even the sophisticated astray. Satan’s lies feed into our weaknesses, fears, and sinful natures, so we’re all up for grabs.

But are we? No indeed! Rather than waste time guessing the anti-Christ’s identity, he will become obvious to those filled with the Holy Spirit, because every word from the creature’s mouth will subtly or blatantly contradict the words of the Bible.Armed with Scripture, the Sword of Truth, we will not be deceived. Instead, we will spread the gospel message more passionately than ever, and avoid those who would bring deceit leading to eternal death.

In the end, Christ’s love for us and our love for Him will defeat this anti-Christ and make his existence melt in eternal flames.

Lord Jesus, You and You alone reign supreme, now and forever. Show us, by the power of your Holy Spirit, the workings of this anti-Christ, so we will recognize him for what he is. By Your power, enable us to snatch many more from his desperate last grasps before You return.
