Read: Titus 3:1-2
Can we Christians leave the political animal kingdom? Jesus said that a house divided against itself cannot stand, and we’ve seen cracks in our national foundation, even before we held our election. Relationships between friends and families, once cohesive groups, have fractured over conservative vs liberal views.
Political discussions can lead to anger and disunity, so I avoid them. If we were asked to describe goals for America, I think we would agree on most of them. The question is how to get there. Consideration and the gentleness that Paul writes of would serve us well as we search for solutions.
Regardless of our political beliefs, according to Paul’s instructions to Titus, we should strive to embody goodness, obey authority, and avoid spreading lies about others.
Because God controls human events, our government will fulfill His sovereign will, whether it terrifies or comforts us. Let us obey authority for the sake of good order, do good where we can, and show love to all.
Lord Jesus, You reign now and will come on the last day to restore our broken world. Until then, when You will rule with perfect wisdom and love, help us to live as You have commanded.
